The
Issue
Capacity
building in developing nations has now become a central feature
in international development strategies. It is widely acknowledged
that weak institutional and governance capacity in poor countries
is an obstacle to improving the living standards of people
in these countries. That is why donors as well as development
financing institutions have emphasized the need to boost capacity
in developing countries.

The
Solution
The
Harrington Institute has developed a comprehensive capacity
building methodology which is used to help developing countries
achieve the dual goal of poverty reduction and sustainable
development. Our philosophy is simple: helping developing
countries attain internationally recognized social indicators
as rapidly as possible is essential to maintain world security
and prosperity. Our team of experts, with extensive international
development experience, has unique insights into the dynamics
of international cooperation. We have identified the critical
conditions necessary for fostering partnerships for capacity
building in developing nations. The Harrington Institute has
developed a number of programs specially designed to meet
the challenges facing these nations and the organizations
that are driving the economy within these nations. We work
with clients to strengthen organizational capability through
a variety of instruments that are suitable for local conditions.
The
Harrington Institute's Capacity Building Methodology has five
inter-related components:

universally available knowledge and use it efficiently to
achieve their business or developmental goals.
Alliance/Partnership
management.
We help developing countries and institutions effectively
manage strategic partnerships with donors, investors and civil
society agencies that promote economic and social progress.
Effective
governance tools.

Our
Vice President of International Programs, Mr. Abdul Rahman
Awl, has had extensive experience as a senior executive working
with international development banks to fund projects designed
to improve capacity throughout Africa Asia and the Middle
East. He understands the challenges that face nations and
organizations that are fighting the difficult problems related
to lack of education, lack of capital assets, internal conflict,
and sophisticated international competitors. This has put
him in an excellent position to develop highly effective consulting
methodologies that bring about and control the required changes.
It has also put the Harrington Institute in an excellent position
to help development financing institutions improve the efficiency
and effectiveness of their operations.
At
the Harrington Institute, we believe that the developing nations
can reduce poverty and promote economic growth by using carefully
designed capacity building methodologies that are relevant
to local conditions. We are proud of our achievements in this
area. Our products and services help developing countries
take advantage of the many improvement opportunities that
will have a very positive social and economic impact.
